The League relies on valuable volunteers to get the work done. From registering new voters to non-partisan election observation, we're always up to something. All in the name of empowering voters and making democracy work.

To get the word out about our volunteer opportunities, we're introducing a Volunteer Blitz. But don't worry — we won't spam you anymore than usual. If you'd like to sign up for this volunteer newsletter, just fill out the subscribe form and check "Volunteer Blitz." Your info will be updated from there.

For now, check out these few volunteer listings below. Volunteering with the League is a great way to meet people and to increase your civic engagement knowledge. If you're new around here, we look forward to getting to know you better!

Register New Voters: Our Neighbor to Neighbor program relaunches this spring. Designed to increase voter engagement and participation in our political process, we canvass in neighborhoods with low voter participation. We go go door-to-door and talk to residents about the electoral process, registering to vote (often on the spot!), requesting an absentee ballot, and changing one’s party affiliation before an election. Think you might like to volunteer with us? Check out our upcoming info session here.

Voter Guide Research: Thanks to our dedicated volunteers, we have a comprehensive list of Maine towns (with at least one candidate election) for June 14 — just in time for candidate filings to be in! The next two weeks are crucial for covering all the information needed for these races in the League's online voter guide, Vote411.org. If you have time to help out, get in touch with Evan at evan@lwvme.org and sign up for a town or two (or as many as you'd like!)

Non-partisan Election Observation: Summer will be here before we know it, as well as the upcoming June 14 election. The League trains volunteers to monitor voting at polling places around the state, reporting on polling place conditions and witnessing the election process. We work with attorneys and election officials to resolve problems. Think you might like to volunteer to observe polling locations on June 14? Fill out this form to be contacted about trainings and next steps.
