Dozens of dedicated League volunteers have unearthed local election information to publish at Vote411.org. As a result, we don’t just know about Westbrook’s Ranked Choice Voting amendment and Lewiston’s mayoral race, we know that Rockland is possibly changing how they elect public officials, Bangor is trying to provide accessible absentee ballots, Bar Harbor is debating whether to regulate short-term rentals, and Dover-Foxcroft is considering allowing recreational cannabis establishments.

Wherever you are, there’s a good chance your personalized ballot at Vote411.org will show you what you’ll be voting on this year. We’ve covered more towns than ever before, and there’s a lot going on around Maine! Click here to get started

NEWS:

Voting Rights Legislation Fails to Pass in the Senate: The Freedom to Vote Act is the most significant voting rights bill in generations. Designed to replace the For the People Act and bring about bi-partisan support, the Senate vote on Oct. 20 followed party lines, with Republicans blocking it from going forward. The Freedom to Vote Act would have protected and expanded the right to vote, decreased the influence of money in politics, and curbed partisan gerrymandering. Sen. Angus King spoke in defense of the bill: "America is a rare experiment in self-government, based upon the radical idea that the people – all the people – are the ultimate source of power. We must guard against the erosion of our democratic norms and continue fighting to pass the Freedom To Vote Act."

Vote411.org is live for the November 2 election.
The database provides nonpartisan election information that you actually need. Find out what's on your ballot, where candidates stand on the issues, and more!

WHAT THE LEAGUE IS WORKING ON:

During the November election, Westbrook voters will have the opportunity to decide whether they want to implement Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) for their local elections, including their Mayoral, City Council, and School Committee races. We're hosting a rally and canvassing event on Saturday, October 30 to talk with Westbrook voters about adopting RCV for their local elections. Meet us at the gazebo at Riverbank Park at 9:30 AM to join our canvassing! Click here for more information
